How block heights work
Roughly every ten minutes, a new block is added to the Bitcoin blockchain. Each block is numbered in order, starting with the Genesis Block at #0. That number is its block height.
Because every block carries a timestamp and can never be altered, a block height becomes a permanent marker for a point in time. Choose the block mined on your special day, and that number is yours to keep.

What is a Bitcoin block height?
Every few minutes a new block is added to the Bitcoin blockchain, and each one is numbered in order, starting from the Genesis Block at #0. That number is the block height. Because blocks are permanent and timestamped, a block height becomes a way of pointing to a precise moment in time.
How do I find the block for my date?
Any public block explorer will show you the blocks mined on a given day. Pick the one that feels right, perhaps the block mined closest to the minute your child was born. If you'd rather not look it up, tell us the date and moment and we'll help you find it.
What can I have engraved?
Your block height, plus an optional short message such as a name, initials or a date. Famous Bitcoin blocks like the Genesis Block or Pizza Day are popular too.
